Hawai‘i Island Youth Gives Back to Community in More Ways than One
As the daughter of an intake specialist at Catholic Charities Hawai‘i’s Housing and Referral Program in Hilo, Chloe Ganal-Keopuhiwa is well aware of the needs among her community. But as one of our most active volunteers, the nine-year-old has also had firsthand experience in addressing those needs.
This year alone, Chloe volunteered at the Summer Jam Event in July and the Big Island Substance Abuse Council’s Splash Bash Community Event in March to assist with the CCH duck pond keiki activity. She also volunteered at our aid station during the Hawai‘i Island Visitors Bureau Charity Walk in May, distributing fans and goodie bags to participants.
Last month, the nine-year-old made an even more selfless contribution to the community. While preparing more than 150 bags of school supplies for the children of CCH clients during the Hawai‘i Island School Supply Drive, Chloe witnessed the enormous need among our keiki island wide. Wanting to do more to help these children, she saved up some money and purchased school supplies to contribute to the drive.
We want to thank Chloe for embodying the CCH mission as she served so many in the community this year and for being a true inspiration to the CCH ‘ohana. Mahalo nui loa, Chloe!
