Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center Receives $50,000 From the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation

Posted on 3/10/2010

Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center is more than two-thirds of the way to its $150,000 fundraising goal, thanks to the generous support of the community and a recent $50,000 donation from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc.  Serving approximately 2,000 seniors ages 60 years and older, the Center, which is managed by Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, has set a fundraising deadline of June 30, 2010, to be able to continue to fund recreational activities, educational classes, and social services that assist seniors in maintaining their health, wellness and independence.

"With the extraordinary economic year we’ve all experienced, the generosity of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is monumental,” said Catholic Charities Hawai‘i President and CEO Jerry Rauckhorst. “The need for our services is quickly growing, with many individuals wanting to remain independent and in their own homes. This donation contributes greatly to the continuation of these programs.”

Built in 1969 by the State to be a model senior center, Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center provides services to Hawai‘i’s elderly community, while also giving them and their families the security of sustained programming. To donate, please visit www.CatholicCharitiesHawaii.org or write personal letters to the Governor requesting that the State continue the Center’s funding.
