Catholic Charities Hawai‘i Names Mary Leong Saunders as Vice President-Philanthropy
HONOLULU, HAWAII – Catholic Charities Hawai‘i (CCH) has named Mary Leong Saunders as Vice President-Philanthropy, where she will provide leadership and guidance for all fund development and community engagement programs and activities.
Prior to joining CCH, Saunders served as executive director of Family Promise of Hawai‘i, a nonprofit organization serving homeless families with children. In addition to overseeing all operations, she was responsible for fund development, donor stewardship, staffing, program development and volunteer training. During her tenure, the organization helped 460 families secure long-term housing, while partnering with CCH and other social service agencies on housing assistance programs.
Mary also worked previously as executive director of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, where she handled the day-to-day operations for the club’s 300 members. She also served as the state supervisor of the National Assessment of Education Progress, a Congressionally mandated assessment for the U.S. Department of Education.
“Mary’s previous experience, coupled with her passion for community service, make her a great fit and asset to Catholic Charities Hawai‘i,” said president and CEO Terry Walsh. “Her background and caring for others matches CCH’s core values of compassion and social justice.”
“I am truly honored and excited to join the Catholic Charities Hawai‘i team,” Saunders said. “I look forward to helping others better their lives through the many programs at CCH. When we can assist those in need, it makes for a stronger community for us all.”
Born and raised in Kailua, Saunders graduated from Maryknoll High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Colorado.
