General Immigration and Employment Core Services
Assistance is given to newly arrived and economically disadvantaged immigrants by offering employment preparation and placement, English language classes, and immigration services. Counseling on immigrant issues is provided by an accredited Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) counselor.
Nā 'Ohana Pūlama
Nā 'Ohana Pūlama (NOP), "families of light and nourishment," provides non-institutional therapeutic foster care through community-based foster homes and group homes. Trained staff and foster parents use the Teaching-Family Association model to provide support and teach skills to emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth, ages 5-19. Nā ‘Ohana Pūlama is offered island-wide with program offices in Hilo and Kona.
Interstate Compact Services On The Placement Of Children (ICPC)
Monitors and ensures safe and stable placement of children in foster or adoptive care across state lines. ICPC also provides home study and case management services for children who are being reunified with biological parents or who are being considered for foster care, adoption, or placement with relatives.
Statewide Resource Families (SRF)
Provides an integrated and community-based approach to identify, assess, train an license child-specific resource families. SRF also offers recruitment and training services for current resource caregivers. The Statewide Resource Families program is a partner with Hui Ho‘omalu Partners in Development Foundation.
Comprehensive Counseling & Support Services
Provides professional counseling, case management, and crisis interventionservices as well as para-professional outreach, support, and visitation services to families with a history of child abuse and neglect. Trained therapists make home visits to provide home-based treatment and support to the family and assist with parenting and interaction skills. The outreach workers also provide transportation and supervision for visitations between parents and children who have been temporarily separated by court order.
- Voluntary Case Management Unit - provides assessment, case planning, crisis intervention, and visitation services on a voluntary basis to children who are at risk of being abused or neglected and to their families.
