Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation

Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation (CCHDC) was incorporated in 1999 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation operating as a subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i. Initially, this entity was created to address the challenges experienced by Catholic Charities Hawaii clients who, when exiting transitional shelters, had difficulty finding permanent affordable housing. As a result, CCHDC set on a course to own, develop, and manage real estate properties with the intent to provide affordable housing for the elderly, special needs individuals and other socially or economically disadvantaged persons and families in the State of Hawai‘i.

Throughout the history of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, the organization's mission is to assist those in the community who are poor, devalued or disenfranchised. Catholic Charities Hawai‘i already provides the following assistance to those who are homeless or are facing homelessness:

  • Short-term affordable housing for families
  • Rental Assistance through its Housing Placement Program
  • Assistance to families looking for apartments they can afford
  • Support to families as they move forward toward economic and social independence
  • Aid to individuals in reconnecting with their communities
  • Shared independent housing for seniors
  • Assistance to individuals who are trying to access senior housing
  • Advocacy, life skills and mentoring to youth who are aging out of the foster care system

As a natural extension, Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation has undertaken the development of affordable housing for the working poor and other vulnerable populations.
