HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I – Catholic Charities Hawai‘i (CCH) has received a generous donation of over $1 million from the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc. in support of its Laulima House campaign. The grant will enable the organization to expand its counseling and child case management services at the 5,377 square-foot property located next to CCH’s main campus in Makiki.
“We are very grateful to the Weinberg Foundation for this generous donation,” said CCH President and CEO Terry Walsh. “This donation and others to the Laulima House fundraising campaign allows us to relocate our counseling programs to the Laulima House to offer a place of healing in a more comfortable, home-like setting and less institutional environment.”
The Laulima House offers a central location for families and provides a higher degree of privacy for the two main programs housed there: counseling services and family visitation. Private counseling is offered to individuals, couples and families to promote healthy relationships and reduce individual and family stress.
As part of CCH’s case management services, the Laulima House also provides a safe and comfortable home-like setting for family strengthening visits between keiki and their biological parents, or children being considered for foster care.
Located at 1802 Ke‘eaumoku Street, the residence was already fittingly named the Laulima House. In Hawaiian laulima means “many hands working together,” which embodies the essence of CCH’s work, helping people in our community with the highest needs, regardless of their faith.
Laulima House is also home to the organization’s Development and Community Outreach departments and provides a valuable space for offices, meetings, special gatherings, volunteer training and more.
