Shining the Spotlight on CCH Division Administrator Jillian Okamoto

When Jillian Okamoto graduated with her bachelor’s degree and was deciding her career path, it was pointed out by one of her then supervisors that she was good at helping guide people in the right direction, teaching them new skills, listening to them, and had tremendous patience especially when working with kupuna. As she continued her education through UH Manoa’s School of Social Work Master’s program, everything began to fall into place.

“That’s when the world of social work appeared. I really enjoyed assisting, teaching, and guiding people to their goals. Working side by side with our team and seeing folks beam with pride as they are being placed into units and when they overcome obstacles to maintain their housing wellness, is why I continue to do the work that I do,” says Okamoto.

Okamoto is a division administrator at Catholic Charities Hawai‘i and currently oversees its Housing Assistance and Referral Programs which helps over 8,000 people in crisis a year. The staff provides information about and/or referrals to services that are and are not provided by Catholic Charities Hawai‘i. The programs also provide:

  • emergency or housing related financial assistance to homeless or at-risk for homelessness
  • short-term and permanent housing options for individuals and families who need support to secure and maintain housing
  • limited basic material needs
  • advocacy for affordable permanent housing

Throughout the year, donations can help individuals and households with emergencies or immediate needs when there are no other resources available. If you would like to make a donation, click here.

“Thank you for your support of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i. We depend on the generosity of contributors like you to help individuals and families who are facing crisis situations,” says Okamoto.
