David Shanahan

Board of Directors Chair

As Chair of CCH’s Board of Directors, David has served as Professor of Security Studies for the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies since 2005. The center provides executive education courses and programs for civilian and uniformed government officials from throughout the Asia Pacific to enhance regional cooperation.

David’s 41-year career in federal service includes 30 years in the Army, with three tours in Hawai‘i spanning nine years of his military service. His final Army assignment was as the Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Pacific, in which he retired in 2006 with the rank of Colonel.

Along with Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, his community involvement includes past and current service with the Rotary Club of Honolulu, the Hawai‘i Armed Services YMCA, the Hawai‘i Army Museum Society, and the Historic Hawai‘i Foundation.

He is a 1976 graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds a Master of Arts from the Naval Postgraduate School.
