Back to School Bash Brings Smiles and Support to Local Families at Maililand

On July 31, 2025, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i’s Housing Stability Services with the support of Family Assessment Center hosted a vibrant and heartwarming Back to School event in the courtyard of Maililand, bringing together families, community partners, and volunteers for a day filled with joy, resources, and readiness for the new school year.

The event served 29 households, including approximately 72 keiki (children) and 49 adults, offering a wide range of services and activities designed to support families as they prepare for the academic year ahead.

Backpacks & School Supplies
A total of 72 backpacks were distributed by Stuffed with Aloha, each thoughtfully packed with age-appropriate school supplies:

  • Preschool and elementary keiki received crayons, pencils, composition books, and folder paper.
  • Secondary students received composition books, folders, pencils, pens, and folder paper—ensuring every child had the tools they need to start strong.

Fresh Haircuts for a Fresh Start
While we didn’t capture an exact count, many keiki received free haircuts from generous volunteer hairstylists. These stylists donated their time and talent to help students feel confident and ready for school. Their presence added a personal and uplifting touch to the day.

Fun, Food & Games
Families enjoyed delicious food, engaging games, and a festive atmosphere that brought the community together in celebration and support.
