CCUSA Recovery Team Assists With Flood Relief Efforts on Kaua‘i

CCH’s Kaua‘i Team is working with other community agencies for the relief efforts for the floods in April and September to support a healthy community approach to recovery

To help fill-in the gaps that were unmet by government agencies, the Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) disaster recovery team sent 2 case managers from South Carolina to assist our Kaua‘i staff with this effort in September. Case managers met with individuals to develop their recovery plans to address their unmet disaster-related needs. After developing the individual recovery plans, the team worked with partner agencies to find financial assistance, donated materials and/or volunteer labor to meet these needs. Families receiving this service was referred by partner community agencies.

CCH is also providing direct assistance to families and individuals through rent subsidies, supplies for emergency home repairs and other related needs such as food and gasoline gift cards. Funds were made possible by grants and individual donations.

Mahalo to the CCUSA team: Rocio Maldonado, disaster case manager, Nick Wright, disaster case manager and Zach Cahalan, CCUSA strategic director, disaster operations.
