VOCA is a free service provided by Catholic Charities Hawai‘i to assist child victims of crime, age 17 and younger, who have been exposed to violence, including physical and sexual abuse, and other types of crime.
Additionally, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i offers a few individual programs that support niche needs including Kuola VOCA and Kupuna to Kamali‘i VOCA that focus on providing services to victims of a crime on the Leeward Coast especially within the Native Hawaiian population.
“Kupuna to Kamali‘i has a long-term vision and seeks to build relationships by engaging with the community through events and meetings that allow us to ‘talk story’ and understand more intimately the needs of the community. Through this program, we provide traditional therapy, case management and culturally focused activities and workshops,” shares Chiyo Churchill, Counseling Center Program Director.
Building trust through authentic engagement is a core value of the Kupuna to Kamaliʻi project. It is essential to meet people where they are at. We work to build on their strengths while helping them recognize and uncover their own paths toward maintaining good mental health. Contact us at (808) 527-4470 if you are interested in learning more about how you can participate in this free program.
At Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi, we continue to seek new and innovative ways to support the needs of our community, especially our keiki. Please consider making a generous donation today to help us provide much needed support to these young victims of abuse.
