Holidays from the Heart

Have you heard about Catholic Charities Hawai‘i’s annual “Holidays from the Heart” project? When you participate in Holidays from the Heart, you will touch the lives of families, youth, seniors and others facing hardship or crisis this holiday season – our goal is to provide cheer and compassion to more than 900 individuals this year.

Here are some examples of the families your gifts will reach:

  1. A family of three has been living out of their car for several months. Although Dad – a veteran – works full-time during the evening, he is looking for a second job to support his family. Meanwhile, Mom is taking care of their three-year-old son and expecting their second child. The family recently moved into a small apartment and is struggling to make ends meet, let alone even think about the upcoming holiday season.
  2. A single parent and her three teenage children are living in subsidized housing. The children’s father is currently incarcerated, and the mother is doing her best to keep the household together on her own. The family is still dealing with this traumatic change in their lives, and receiving a hand up at this time of year could make a world of difference.
  3. Left by their parents, who are recovering drug users, two elementary school-aged children are now under the care of their grandmother. With her fixed income, she cannot give her grandchildren the Christmas that every child deserves.

Please join us in supporting these and other families this holiday season by donating gift cards to grocery or a retail stores such as Foodland, Wal-Mart, Long’s Drugs or Ross. To learn more, contact us at 527-4850.
