Volunteer Appreciation Day at Ching Campus

Each April, during Volunteer Appreciation Month, the Community Senior Services Division proudly recognizes the dedicated volunteers who support programs based at Catholic Charities Hawai‘i Ching Campus. These volunteers are essential to helping older adults remain connected, active, and supported within the community.

This year, Community Senior Services hosted a Pau Hana Volunteer Appreciation Get Together on April 16 at the Ching Campus Community Hall. The gathering offered a relaxed opportunity to connect and to express appreciation to volunteers from three volunteer based programs:

  • Transportation Friends for Kupuna
  • Phone A Friend
  • Memory Mentor Program

A total of 24 volunteers attended the event, sharing fellowship, stories, and a deep commitment to serving our kupuna.

Program Impact Highlights

Volunteer based services are a vital part of meeting the needs of older adults, especially as many face rising costs of living and increasing transportation and social support needs. Our volunteers help ensure that kupuna can attend medical appointments, pick up groceries, stay socially connected, and maintain their independence.

Transportation Friends for Kupuna

With the support of 37 dedicated volunteers, Transportation Friends for Kupuna provided a total of 2,217 trips over the past two years, serving an average of 22 clients each month and contributing 1,655.75 hours of volunteer service to help kupuna remain independent and connected to their community.

The data shows that while the number of clients served each month increased slightly, the number of trips increased significantly. This indicates that clients are relying more frequently on the program to meet essential daily needs and maintain their quality of life.

Mahalo to Our Volunteers

Community Senior Services extends its heartfelt appreciation to all our volunteers for their time, compassion, and commitment. Your service strengthens our programs and plays a crucial role in supporting the well being, dignity, and independence of the kupuna we serve.

In 2025, CCH supported 7,524 kupuna, helping them stay healthy and connected.

Mahalo for making a difference every day.
