Today, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i joined the global community in honoring the International Day of Peace. As part of this celebration, our staff committed to the CCH Peace Pledge — a promise to live with compassion, respect, and courage in our daily lives.
CCH Peace Pledge
- To Reflect: On my own attitudes and biases and how they affect my behavior toward others.
- To Be Inclusive: To include people who are culturally different from myself in team decision-making processes.
- To Respect Self and Others: To respect ourselves, to affirm others, and to avoid uncaring criticism, hateful words, physical attacks, and self-destructive behavior.
- To Communicate Better: To share our feelings honestly, to look at safe ways to express our anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully.
- To Listen: To listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with us, and to consider others’ feelings and needs rather than insist on having our own way.
- To Forgive: To apologize and make amends when we have hurt another, to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.
- To Speak: To speak up if I witness another person being humiliated or discriminated against.
- To Respect Nature: To treat the environment and all living things, including our pets, with respect and care.
- To Be Courageous: To challenge violence in all its forms whenever we encounter it.
In addition to making this pledge, our staff came together to share small dishes from their own cultures. This act of sharing food was a powerful reminder that peace begins when we celebrate the diversity that unites us.
Together, let us continue to build bridges of understanding, compassion, and hope — starting in our homes, communities, and workplaces.
