Catholic Charities Hawai‘i (CCH), together with the Kaneohe Target Store at Windward Mall, the Honolulu Police Department, and other first responders, helped bring holiday joy to 50 keiki during this year’s Heroes and Helpers event on O‘ahu.
This annual celebration provides much-needed support to teens and young children during the holiday season while strengthening positive relationships between youth and local law enforcement and first responders. Each child received a $100 Target gift card to shop for Christmas presents and was paired with a member of the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Fire Department, State Department of Law Enforcement – Sheriff Division, Honolulu Emergency Services Department, Hawai‘i National Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i.
After selecting their gifts, the keiki had their items wrapped by community volunteers and enjoyed a complimentary breakfast as part of the festivities.
This year’s event was made possible through the generosity of sponsors including Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, King Windward Nissan, REIS (Brit Reis) Pediatrics, Title Guaranty, McDonald’s, American Savings Bank, and Starbucks.
This marks the second Heroes and Helpers event co-sponsored by Catholic Charities Hawai‘i on O‘ahu, with similar programs hosted in past years on Hawai‘i Island and Maui. Mahalo to all partners and volunteers who helped create a memorable and uplifting holiday experience for our keiki and community.
