This year’s Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center Christmas Party welcomed more than 300 kupuna from across O‘ahu for a joyful celebration filled with music, cultural expression, and meaningful community connections. Held at the Ala Moana Hotel, this cherished annual tradition remains one of the most anticipated events of the year for our kupuna community.
A total of 328 kupuna and guests joined the celebration, enjoying 14 performances presented by Lanakila clubs and classes. From traditional ethnic dances and cultural songs to karaoke, hula, and cultural showcases, the program beautifully reflected the diversity, talent, and spirit of the Lanakila ‘ohana.
A crowd favorite moment came from the American Sign Language Club, who donned bright red noses and delighted everyone with joyful performances of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Their energy and enthusiasm filled the room with laughter, smiles, and Christmas cheer!
We were also honored to welcome state leaders who spent time engaging with our kupuna, sharing lunch, conversation, and heartfelt aloha. Mahalo to Senator Karl Rhoads, Senator Carol Fukunaga, and Representative Jenna Takenouchi for joining us and showing their continued support for our seniors.
The morning program also featured the installation of the 2026 Club Officers, recognition of our 2025 Volunteer of the Year, Mr. Victor Tangonan, inspiring remarks from Catholic Charities Hawai‘i CEO Tina Andrade, and a closing prayer before kupuna enjoyed a festive buffet lunch, door prizes, and time to reconnect with friends.
More than a party, the Lanakila Christmas celebration is a beautiful reminder of the joy, dignity, and belonging our kupuna deserve—not just during the holidays, but every day of the year.
