Ryan Tanaka

Ryan Tanaka is a Senior Director and Senior Relationship Manager at TIAA in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he serves the firm’s largest institutional clients across Alaska, California, and his home state of Hawaii. He manages a client portfolio of approximately $13 billion in assets under management, partnering with executive leadership and governing boards to deliver long-term retirement, investment, and fiduciary solutions.

With over 20 years of experience in financial services, Ryan brings deep expertise in institutional relationship management, portfolio oversight, and strategic advisory services. Throughout his tenure at TIAA, he has been recognized nationally for excellence and is frequently invited to present best practices at regional and national forums. He is known for strengthening complex client relationships, mentoring emerging leaders, and driving results across multi-state engagements.

Earlier in his career, Ryan worked in portfolio management at Key Equipment Finance, where he supported a $12 billion portfolio, helped develop enterprise risk-rating processes following a major acquisition, and represented the equipment leasing industry on Capitol Hill. He also brings an entrepreneurial perspective from building, scaling, and operating a sustained, profitable sports training business.

Ryan holds a degree in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Leeds School of Business and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. He brings a strong commitment to community service through active involvement on several Hawaiʻi nonprofit boards.
